Tenebrae Service

We are having a Tenebrae Service this Good Friday at my house. The word ‘tenebrae’ is Latin for shadows. The purpose of the Tenebrae service is to recreate the emotional aspects of the passion story by extinguishing a candle after various readings that take us through the story. At the end of the service we will be in complete darkness reminding us of the stone that was rolled in front of Jesus’ tomb. This is meant to be a somber service to help prepare us for the celebration of the resurrection on Easter Sunday.

We will be reading through John 18, and 19 along with Psalm 22.
